Area Director

Ms. Karen Clevenger opened the second Primrose School in the Houston area in December 1998 as the School Director at Primrose School of Champions. In August 2001, Primrose School of Barker Cypress opened and she became the Area Director. Both schools were the proud recipients of the Primrose President’s Award for Excellence in 2003 and again 2009.

Primrose School of Champions was sold in 2016 and work began on opening a new school in the Cypress area. Primrose School of Bridgeland opened in May 2019 and Karen continues as the Area Director for both Primrose Barker Cypress and Primrose Bridgeland.

Ms. Clevenger has an Education Degree from the University of West Florida, but also has work experience in management and banking, which gives her a great balance managing the schools. She has two children who worked at Primrose while high school students and feels that it was a good “life” experience for both of them.

Jim and Susan Tanner

Welcome to Primrose School of Bridgeland and thank you for your interest in our school. We are Jim and Susan Tanner, the proud owners of Primrose School of Bridgeland and Primrose School of Barker Cypress. After 25 years as a Senior Executive in the Refining and Marketing Business, we decided it was time for a career change, and began searching for a career that required less travel, one that we would be able to share, and most importantly, an opportunity to provide a valuable service to the community.

In 2004, we discovered Primrose Schools and knew from experience in searching for quality care for our children Jake and Lily, that Primrose was unique in that it offered parents both an educational preschool environment and excellent child care services for working parents. The Cypress area is known for quality schools and we knew Primrose was the right fit for the community.

We, along with our tenured Leadership Team, are honored to be two-time recipients of the Primrose President’s Award for school excellence. In 2016, we also received the Primrose Children’s Foundation Platinum Sponsor Award for our Spring Fling fund-raising activities to benefit children’s charities. We were thrilled that funds raised by our school staff and families benefited Save the Children on a national level and CAM – Cypress Assistance Ministries on a local level.

“Who children become is as important as what they know” is a belief that is at the core of our Primrose Balanced Learning approach. Our exclusive early learning approach balances purposeful play with nurturing guidance from teachers to encourage curiosity, creativity, confidence and compassion. We deliver more than a curriculum; it’s a life-changing early learning experience for children and their families.

After being part of the Primrose family for 20 years, we enjoy seeing and hearing the success of children who have experienced the foundation that a Primrose education provides. Many of our families have grown children and are still in touch with us. It is very rewarding to hear from parents that they attribute part of their child’s success to our Primrose School.

We invite you to visit our school to learn more about the Primrose experience and look forward to meeting you and your family!

Our family would love to meet yours.
